Introduction
Graduating with a senior project is an academic milestone, but presenting it at an international conference is a whole new level of achievement. Along with my friends, students from the International School of Engineering (ISE) at Chulalongkorn University—Palida Yingwatchara, and Thiti Srikao, and under the guidance of Dr. Sirin Nitinawarat, our research paper titled: “User-Centric Web Application for Phishing URL Detection by Machine Learning Model,” was presented at the 23rd International Symposium on Communications and Information Technologies (ISCIT 2024) in Bangkok, Thailand. To top it off, the paper won the Best Paper Award!
About the Project
Our team’s research aimed to tackle the increasing threat of phishing attacks using machine learning technology. The project involved the development of a user-centric web application capable of detecting phishing URLs in real time.
Research Highlights
Motivation: With phishing being a significant cybersecurity concern, the team sought to create a solution that is both accurate and accessible.
Methodology: The project utilized advanced machine learning algorithms to analyze URL patterns and behaviors, ensuring effective detection of malicious links.
Key Findings: Our solution demonstrated an acceptable level of accuracy and usability, making it an essential tool for improving cybersecurity in both personal and professional environments.
Conference Overview
The ISCIT conference is a globally recognized platform for researchers and professionals in communications and information technology. The 2024 symposium was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 23 to 25, hosting participants from around the world.

Achievement and Recognition
Learning Experience and Takeaways
The journey wasn’t without challenges. Our team had to navigate complex machine learning models and balance academic deadlines with our commitment to the project. Through the experience, we were able to enhance our technical skills, learned to present complex ideas effectively, and gained confidence in our abilities. Another great takeaways from this experience is that the conference provided a platform to connect with industry experts, allowing us to gain insights on potential collaborations and future opportunities.
Winning the Best Paper Award
Winning the Best Paper Award is no small feat. The selection criteria included originality, technical depth, and practical implications. The recognition underscores the team’s hard work, innovative thinking, and dedication to addressing a critical global issue.
Congratulatory Message from ISE
Congratulations to Palida Yingwatchara, Pavarit Wiriyakunakorn and Thiti Srikao, Information and Communication Engineering students working under the supervision of Dr. Sirin Nitinawarat (ISE).
Their research paper entitled “User-Centric Web Application for Phishing URL Detection by Machine Learning Model” was presented at the 23rd International Symposium on Communications and Information Technologies (ISCIT 2024) in Bangkok, Thailand between 23 – 25 September 2024, and their paper also received the Best Paper Award!
Conclusion
Participating in ISCIT 2024 was an important part of our journey as an engineering students for us. Furthermore, winning the Best Paper Award also made our effort and dedication worth while. This success would not have been possible without the support of Chulalongkorn University, the ISE program, and our advisor, Dr. Sirin Nitinawarat.
